Summary

Historically, the Energy$mart Program has used an ad hoc approach to weatherization training activities in New Mexico (NM), and thus training has not been standardized in the state. The weatherization training center (WTC) grant is part of the NM Mortgage Finance Authority’s (MFA) overall training strategy. The strategy is to create a holistic system for educating and training the state’s weatherization workforce with a multifaceted program that combines technical standards with blended online, classroom, lab, and field training provided by dedicated weatherization trainers. This new system builds on the Department of Energy (DOE) weatherization standardized curriculum. The NM system will create a tailored curriculum that focuses on the three regional climate zones in the state. In order to standardize training and best practices across the state and within the climate zones, the program will develop technical standards that describe the weatherization process and how specific weatherization measures will be performed. Once the technical standards are completed, they will be integrated with the DOE curriculum and made available through the NM Energy$mart Training Academy and in the field. The Academy shall leverage this investment and provide training to other public and private trainees.
