Summary

Weatherization and related energy efficiency and retrofit agencies throughout Michigan have recognized the need for better standards and training. The main goal of this project is to make the process for weatherizing low-income homes, businesses, and other buildings in Michigan more effective and efficient. This will be accomplished by developing worker and contractor knowledge and skill sets. The project aims to expand the capacity of the training program at Focus: HOPE to serve more students and offer multitiered, multimodal training. It will also establish a similar training program at Jackson Community College (JCC) in Jackson, MI. Concurrently, the WARM Training Center of Detroit (which developed and delivered the weatherization curriculum used at Focus: HOPE) will enhance its existing curriculum, advise JCC on the establishment of its program, and advise Focus: HOPE on the expansion of its program. The curriculum and accompanying recruitment and marketing efforts will be expanded to serve new student populations, including contractors and inspectors.
