Summary

Older industrial suburbs in Pennsylvania’s Bucks, Chester, Delaware, and Montgomery counties have unique housing characteristics, employment, and transportation patterns that distinguish them from urban Philadelphia. These areas include older industrial suburbs, towns, and villages—many with huge blocks of substandard, deteriorated, and low-income housing. The Southeastern Pennsylvania Regional Weatherization Training Consortium (SEPA RWTC), led by the Bucks County Community College (BCCC), seeks to establish and execute job-ready training for weatherization projects tailored to the unique characteristics of these industrial suburbs. The central objective of this project is to bring entry-level workers into the labor pool through weatherization training and other green initiatives across a ring of nine counties surrounding Philadelphia. This weatherization training program will be included as part of the training opportunities offered at multiple locations through a consortium of local community colleges and local technical high schools, preparing students with skills and knowledge leading to credentials and greater flexibility in the job market.
